Ogilvie: That's Been Coming

Defender's delight at convincing win over Cobblers

He was the man who got the ball rolling on what turned out to be a prolific afternoon for Pompey at Fratton Park.

Connor Ogilvie headed home from a Marlon Pack free-kick with just seven minutes on the clock in a League One meeting with Northampton.

It was mostly one-way traffic from that point, with Paddy Lane doubling the advantage and adding a third goal after Tom McIntyre’s controversial red card.

Callum Lang also struck in the 4-1 victory and Ogilvie was pleased to see such a convincing display from the Blues

The defender said: “We’ve been due one of those and I thought that it was a top performance from the entire team.

“My last goal was at Barnsley, so it was nice to score and hopefully I can chip in with a few more this season.

“I was on the floor and didn’t actually see the ball go into the net, but I heard the crowd roar and was delighted.

“I went straight up to Marlon and told him it was an unbelievable delivery – we almost did it again in the second half and thankfully Langy was there to smash it in.

“A result like has been coming for us and to get four goals is great, although we were disappointed to concede at the end.

“It’s always going to be harder when you go down to 10 men, though, and the boys dug in really well from then.

“We want to keep plugging away each week and go on a bit of a winning run – every game is a cup final now.”

Ogilvie has now started three games in succession following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

He said: “It was hard having to just watch the boys and so I’m just delighted to be out there again and helping the team.

“I worked as hard as I could to get back after the surgery, which was the right decision. I’m back now and want it to stay that way.”
