Some inconsistent performances over the past few weeks have seen Pompey’s lead at the League One summit shrink.
But Paddy Lane is still confident that they have what it takes to ensure the season is remembered as a successful one.
The Blues suffered just their third defeat of the season last Saturday, despite dominating much of the contest at Cheltenham.
And ahead of Saturday’s clash with Leyton Orient at Fratton Park, Lane does not believe they are far away from rediscovering the form that took the club to top spot.
“We had a sticky patch over Christmas, then showed what we can do against Stevenage before a disappointing result last weekend.
“I don’t think it’s anything to panic about because we watched the performance against Cheltenham and it was sound.
“It was just the end product that was missing and if we can get that right, then the results will come again.
"We’re top of the league for a reason, even if that gap has shortened, and I’ve got full confidence that we’ll recapture the form that has got us here."

It is approaching a year since Lane made the switch to the south coast from Fleetwood on transfer deadline day.
He said: “I’ve been open about how much I love it down here and it’s been a good season for me after ending the last one strongly.
“It’s hard not to love it when you’ve got a packed Fratton Park for every game and the fans have been as good as they are.
“I’ve developed as a player and a person. The staff have brought me on so much and hopefully that will continue.”
