Blues back in action

3 January 2024

It is the start of a new year, which means it is also time for Pompey Women to return from their festive break.

They are back on the road on Sunday with a visit to Billiericay in the National League (2pm kick-off).

Jay Sadler's side were last in action at the start of December, with a south coast derby in the third round of the FA Cup.

Emma Jones was on target at Westleigh Park, but despite a valiant effort, the Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat to exit the competition.

This weekend will see Pompey in league action for the first time since their victory over London Bees more than a month ago.

Jazz Younger, Jones, Dani Lane and Ella Humphrey all found the target in a 4-0 triumph at The Hive.

Billericay currently sit eighth in the National League Southern Division standings, having collected 10 points from 11 games.

Beth Lumsden and Nicole Barrett both bagged a brace, while Ali Hall, Sophie Quirk and Ava Rowbotham also netted, in a 7-0 success in the reverse fixture at Westleigh Park.

Meanwhile, ut was a dramatic 4-3 victory for the Blues when the two teams last met at New Lodge back in April.

Humphrey cancelled out Jess King’s opener before Annie Rolf’s double gave the visitors a commanding lead.

But a Lucy Jones penalty and King free-kick either side of the break ensured the hosts levelled the contest.

And it looked as though the spoils would be shared until Jazz Younger popped up in the dying seconds to secure all three points.

The game takes place at New Lodge (CM12 9SA). Tickets are priced £5 for adults and £2 for under-16s. They can be purchased at the turnstiles on the day.

Supporters at home can keep up to date with the action via the club's social media accounts.

There will be full coverage of the day and key match updates on Twitter (X), while photos and key information will be posted on Facebook and Instagram.

A match report will be posted on the website shortly after the final whistle, while there will be post-match reaction posted on Pompey Women's social channels.

Highlights of the contest will be available to watch the following day.

Tickets are now available online to purchase for Pompey Women's next three home games, including next Sunday's clash with Hashtag United.
