Blues in League Cup action

25 January 2024

Pompey Women return to action on Sunday as they visit Ipswich in the quarter-finals of the National League Cup (2pm kick-off).

Jay Sadler's side are back on the road after beating Hashtag United on home soil to return to the top of the table a fortnight ago.

They fell behind early on at Westleigh Park, but strikes from Nicole Barrett and Emma Jones secured a 2-1 victory for the Blues.

Pompey booked their place in last eight of the League Cup by defeating MK Dons back in October, with Jones heading home the only goal at Fairfields Sports Hub.

Their most recent away fixture came in the league at the start of the month, when Ali Hall came off the bench to grab the winner.

And the Blues are now visiting Suffolk to face the Tractor Girls for the first time since the opening day of the 2022/23 campaign.

Sophie Quirk bagged a brace that afternoon, while Dani Lane was also on the scoresheet in a comfortable 3-0 success.

They will soon make a quick return, however, with Pompey heading back to East Anglia for a league contest the following Sunday.

Ipswich are currently sitting fourth in the Southern Division standings – 11 points behind their visitors – having collected 22 points from 11 fixtures.

They made it through to the cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 triumph at Cardiff, courtesy of goals from Natasha Thomas and Bonnie Horwood.

The game takes place at Felixstowe and Walton's AGL Arena (IP11 9HT). Tickets are priced £6 for adults, £4 for seniors (65+) and £2 for under-19s, and can be purchased at the turnstiles on the day.

Supporters at home can keep up to date with the action via the club's social media accounts.

There will be full coverage of the day and key match updates on Twitter (X), while photos and key information will be posted on Facebook and Instagram.

A match report will be posted on the website shortly after the final whistle, while there will be post-match reaction posted on Pompey Women's social channels.

Highlights of the contest will be available to watch the following day.
