Bishop: Feet On The Ground

Striker struck twice in win at Wycombe

29 March 2024

Colby Bishop certainly picked a good time to rediscover his goalscoring touch.

Pompey’s leading marksman had not found the net in five games, but struck twice at Wycombe to help secure a 3-1 victory.

He was assisted on each occasion by Abu Kamara and the result was made even sweeter with Bolton, Peterborough and Barnsley all dropping points.

Bishop was delighted to play such a vital role in another big win for the Blues, but that is not his main priority.

The striker – who has now notched 18 goals this season – said: “It’s a great result at one of the hardest places that you can come to in League One.

“Goals come and go for strikers and you’ll have patches when you don’t score, but I feel that I offer something to this team when I don’t find the net.

"I’m not going to lie – we’re in a really good position, but we won’t get carried away until the job is done."

“I caught the ball nicely for the first one and thought it was a goal, but didn’t initially realise it had hit the defender.

“It was a similar one for the second and it was brilliant work for Abs – I thought he looked absolutely unplayable all game.

“He’s obviously a good player now, but it’s scary how good he can be. He probably just needs to believe that because he’s a humble kid.

“You don’t want to concede so soon after scoring, but I thought we dealt with that well and kept our composure.

“We used our experience and although I do think we can probably perform better, the important thing is the win.

“I’m not going to lie – we’re in a really good position, but we won’t get carried away until the job is done.

“The feet are still on the ground and the only major celebrations right now are from the fans. We just look at what we need to do next.”
