Harley: What A Feeling

Assistant head coach reflects on win at Wycombe

Pompey could not really have asked for a much better outcome on Good Friday.

They made sure to get the job done at Wycombe, with Abu Kamara having a hand in all three goals in a 3-1 victory.

Colby Bishop’s early opener was soon cancelled out by Matt Butcher, but the striker added another before the break, while Christian Saydee wrapped things up in the second half.

And with three of the Blues’ four promotion rivals all dropping points, Jon Harley was delighted with the afternoon’s work.

Pompey’s assistant head coach said: “It’s an incredible feeling and at the business end of the season, it was key to carry on that momentum.

“We wanted the performance, but at this stage of the season, really it’s all about getting those points on the board.

“It felt a bit quiet from us at times in the first half and the key message was to show some more energy.

“We knew it was going to be a fight after the break and everyone stood up to that – the energy was raised.

“The result was then wrapped up and for the final 20 minutes or so out there, it just felt really comfortable.

“Colby has been working hard and there’s never issue with his performances because it’s always so selfless.

“To get to this stage of the season with the number of points we have is credit to all those big characters.

“As boring as it sounds, our focus now is just on one game at a time and a massive contest with Derby on Tuesday.”

Kamara provided the crosses for both of Bishop’s finishes, while his cleared delivery then allowed Saydee to lash home.

Harley said: “He’s been exceptional for the past few months and on top of that, is also such a great lad. He showed his class.

“Abu was outstanding and if I was a left-back playing against him, it would be the most difficult thing to do.

“He can go inside or outside and that end product you see is something that he’s really been working hard on.”
