Portsmouth FC Statement: Pyrotechnics

Fans are reminded that is illegal to bring pyrotechnics into football grounds

28 March 2024

Portsmouth Football Club are proud of the fantastic support we have received this season – both at Fratton Park and on the road.

It has undoubtedly played a key role in helping John Mousinho’s side climb to the top of the League One table.

However, we would like to remind all fans that it is illegal to bring pyrotechnics into football grounds.

A smoke cannister was used when Kusini Yengi scored Pompey’s winning goal at Peterborough earlier this month, with the incident under investigation by the club.

The use of pyrotechnics in football stadia can cause serious injury and anyone caught with one could receive a criminal record and a stadium ban.

Furthermore, instances of their use are also investigated by the footballing authorities and can lead to the club being punished.

We are grateful for your passionate and loyal backing, but please – as the vast majority already do – show your support in a manner that does not endanger the health and safety of fellow supporters or risk sanctions being taken against the club.
