In a season of very few low moments, Pompey’s home meeting with Blackpool certainly stands out.
They were unbeaten in the league going into the south coast contest towards the end of November, only to crash to a 4-0 defeat.
But the Blues did not let that disappointment hold them back, heading to Bloomfield Road this weekend with a strong lead at the top of the summit.
And Conor Shaughnessy is focused on ensuring the mood remains high with the finish line now in sight.
The centre-back said: “It’s a really enjoyable time for us at the minute – and I think you can see that all around the club.
“Things are going well, with positive results and performances, but we have to keep our heads down and take it one game at a time.
"We also know that we’re a better team than we showed that day at Fratton Park and we have to show an improvement."
“There are 10 to go now and fingers crossed that we can go on to make sure this finishes as a successful season.
“It was a tough game against Blackpool earlier in the season and things didn’t go our way, while we know they’re a good side.
“But we also know that we’re a better team than we showed that day at Fratton Park and we have to show an improvement.
“There have been some personnel changes since then and we’ve gone on a decent run, picking up plenty of points, so we’re in a good place and will go there full of confidence.”
Pompey have been well backed at home and on the road this term, with Shaughnessy particularly impressed with the noise generated in last weekend’s win over Oxford.
He said: “The atmosphere was so loud – particularly in the last 15 minutes to really push us over the line.
“It makes you want to give absolutely everything for the club and so hopefully the fans can see that we’re doing it for them.”
