Pompey Women Retained List: Summer 2024

Ten players set to depart the Blues

25 May 2024

Pompey Women can confirm the retained list following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

Negotiations with seven players are ongoing, while seven other members of Jay Sadler's side remain under contract.

However, 10 players will be leaving the club when their contracts expire this summer.

Kelci Bowers, Leeta Rutherford, Evie Gane, Tierney Scott, Dani Lane, Jess Smith, Mia Adaway, Ella Wild, Ali Hall and Mia Smith are all set to depart.

Dani Lane arrived at Pompey in July 2021 and made 95 appearances, scoring 28 goals. Lane played a significant role in the Blues' title win, deputising at centre-back for the second half of the campaign.

Ali Hall joined the Blues in January 2022, scoring six goals in 43 appearances in the forward line and in midfield. Her late strike against Billericay in January secured three important points at New Lodge.

Leeta Rutherford returned to the club for her third spell at the start of the 2023/24 season. Rutherford was part of the title-winning sides in 2011/12 and 2014/15, but achieved her dream of gaining promotion to the Championship with her hometown club in the Blues' latest triumphant campaign.

Evie Gane's second spell with the Blues will come to an end this summer. She made 60 appearances for the Blues and her two goals came in the 2021/22 season; the winner against Bournemouth in the FA Cup and a dramatic equaliser away at Ipswich.

Ella Wild's 43 appearances for Pompey came at either of the full-back positions. She scored two goals, including a penalty in the PDFA Cup final in 2022, but is best known for her technical ability and composure on the ball.

Tierney Scott joined ahead of the 2022/23 season and scored eight goals in 38 appearances. She spent time on loan at Worthing in the last campaign, but joined back up with the Blues to secure the title.

Mia Adaway arrived as a 16-year-old in 2019 and made 23 appearances in and amongst loan spells, long-term injuries and postponed campaigns. Adaway memorably scored a crucial spot-kick in the Blues' Hampshire Cup triumph in 2021 on her 18th birthday, as well as a late winner over Brighton at Fratton Park in 2022.

Kelci Bowers, Jess Smith and Mia Smith will also be leaving, and everyone at Pompey would like to thank all departing players for their contribution during their time at the club and wish them all the best for the future.

Hannah Haughton, Annie Rolf, Daisy McLachlan, Ella Humphrey, Georgie Freeland, Scarlett Williams and Emily Pitman all remain under contract.

And the Blues are in negotiations with Nicole Barrett, Jazz Younger, Ava Rowbotham, Emma Jones, Sophie Quirk, Izzy Collins and Riva Casley.
