Mason arrived at Pompey on loan from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day in August 2018, in a short-term move until January.

Born in Plymouth, Mason joined the Pilgrims as a 10-year-old, ultimately progressing through to make his first-team debut on August 5, 2009.

In all, made 55 appearances for the West Country side between 2009 and 2011, scoring 10 times.

His performances for Argyle attracted the attention of Cardiff City, who paid £250,000 to bring him to south Wales in July 2011.

His first goal for his new club came during a thrilling 5-3 win over Barnsley on October 22, 2011, which marked the first of 25 in total for the Welsh side.

His most notable came at Wembley Stadium, as he scored the Bluebirds’ opening goal in the 2-2 (3-2 on penalties) defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup final.

He was also a part of the Cardiff side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2012/13.

Mason made three separate loan moves to Bolton Wanderers between November 2013 and January 2015, before then-Wolves manager Kenny Jackett signed him permanently the following month.

He has thus far scored 7 times in 39 appearances for the West Midlands outfit, whose change of ownership coincided with Jackett being sacked in July 2015.

The forward was loaned to Burton Albion for the first few months of 2017/18, and enjoyed another short-term move to MLS side Colorado Rapids later in the campaign.
