Central midfielder joined Pompey on a loan deal until the end of the season from Millwall on August 17, 2018, making his debut a day later during the Blues' 4-1 win over Oxford, in which he was named man-of-the-match.

The tough-tackling midfielder has progressed through the junior ranks at The Den into the senior squad, crowning his first full season – 2015/16 – with winning both the club’s ‘Young Player of the Year’ and ‘Goal of the Season’ honours.

Made his senior debut in a Capital One Cup second round clash with Southampton in 2014, coming on as a 76th-minute substitute.

Thompson's first start for the Lions came against Scunthorpe in August 2015, as he went on to make 37 appearances in all competitions during the 2015/16 campaign, scoring twice, as his side were beaten Sky Bet League One play-off finalists.

It was his second goal that term, a 20-yard volley against Shrewsbury Town, that was ultimately named 'Goal of the Season'.

2016/17 was a breakout season for him, as he featured 47 times as Millwall secured promotion back to the Championship after a two-year absence, beating Bradford City 1-0 in the final.

Made a handful of appearances in the Championship last term, whilst also netting in successive rounds of the Emirates FA Cup, against Barnsley and Rochdale in rounds three and four.
