Solomon-Otabor was Pompey’s final signing of the January 2019 transfer window, arriving on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City on deadline day.
The winger is one of the Blues’ academy products, although he previously turned out for Hampton & Richmond Borough and Crystal Palace at youth level before taking up a scholarship with the Midlands side.
His first taste of senior football came during a loan spell with Conference North club Oxford City in 2014, where he played 12 league games and scored one goal.
After earning praise from then-manager Gary Rowett, who called him “probably the quickest player we have got in the squad” and noted that he had “roasted first team defenders in training”, Solomon-Otabor was given his Birmingham debut during a 2-0 League Cup win over Gillingham.
He began earning more game time and netted his first Blues goal during the 5-2 win away to Fulham. In the entirety of the 2015/16 season, he made 25 appearances.
The following campaign, he joined League One outfit Bolton Wanderers on loan and played four times in League One.
His next loan move, to fellow third tier side Blackpool, was far more fruitful, as the London-born man racked up 47 appearances.
He also scored five goals for the Tangerines, including one against Pompey at Bloomfield Road in a 3-2 defeat for the home side.
In the first half of the 2018/19 season, Solomon-Otabor played ten times for Birmingham and netted during the opening day draw with Norwich City.
