The centre-back joined Pompey in June 2023 after leaving Burton at the end of the previous campaign.
He turned professional with Reading before signing for Leeds, where he appeared in the Championship.
There were also several spells out on loan and he was named on the bench in the Scottish Cup final during his time with Hearts.
Shaughnessy – who has represented Republic of Ireland up to under-21 level – then moved on to Rochdale before signing for Burton in the summer of 2021.
He scored four goals in 62 appearances during his two years with the Brewers, including two outings at Fratton Park.
