Mansfield next in Taylor's sight

“We’re determined to get a good result and want to start climbing further up the league.

“It was good to get on the scoresheet again and hopefully I can build on that at the weekend.

He said: “I feel absolutely fine. The rehab went brilliant and I feel better this time than when I came back after the last injury.

And now a fully-fit Taylor is hoping to help fire the Blues to victory when Mansfield visit Fratton Park on Saturday.

He collected Alex Wynter’s fine cross before beating Jordan Archer with a neat finish.

The striker made a goalscoring return in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Northampton.

It was Ryan Taylor’s first Pompey start in exactly a month.

But he admits that the league is their priority this season ahead of a visit from the 15th-placed Stags.

Taylor was disappointed that his second goal of the season could not prevent Pompey from exiting the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

“We want to get into the play-off places and higher if we can and the only way to do that is to start winning on a more consistent basis.” “Nobody likes losing, but our main focus is always the league and we have to concentrate on beating a tough Mansfield side.”

“The young lads who came into the side were absolutely superb and that bodes well for the future.

“It was end-to-end and there were plenty of positives for us to take from the game,” said Taylor. “We just gave a sloppy goal away.
