Pack: We're On The Attack

Skipper delighted with Pompey's goal glut

19 February 2024

The Fratton faithful have been treated to plenty of goals in recent weeks, with Pompey finding the net 11 times in their past three home games.

Marlon Pack scored one of them on Saturday – lashing the ball home early in the second half to double the lead in what became a 4-1 victory over Reading.

He then marked some good news in his personal life by sticking the ball up his shirt and racing away to celebrate.

And Pack wants the Blues to continue making the most of their attacking talents in order to maintain their promotion quest.

The skipper said: “It took us a while to figure Reading out and they started brightly, but we were very clinical when we got to grips with them.

“The first goal gave us a bit of relief and probably dampened their spirits, but we don’t like to just hold on because we’re at our best when we get on the front foot.

“I did a slow drag and found the bottom corner – it was a great time to score because we wanted to start the second half well.

"Those messages have remained the same because we know how ruthless we can be and have to maintain our standards."

“I’m not sure the missus will be too happy! We’ve got baby number three on the way, so I’ll need another ticket! My boy is massive on celebrations, so it was more for him.

“We’ve got a real attacking threat in our team and you can see that with the guys who came in during January.

“Langy has made a really positive start with his goal return, while Paddy and Abs have been fantastic all season.

“Then with Colby and Kas, you’ve got two strikers who can score, so that definitely makes it a lot better for us.

“Those messages have remained the same because we know how ruthless we can be and have to maintain our standards.”

The Royals contest saw 20,000 people packed into Fratton Park for the first time in more than a decade.

Pack said: “It was a fantastic atmosphere and the more we get in here, the more they can spur us on to achieve what we want to achieve.”
